Cabin Beds
Cabin beds, sometimes known as Captain's beds, are childrens beds that are slightly raised with drawers or storage compartments built in underneath. They derive from the beds that were built in ship cabins to maximize the space available for storage, in places where space was at a premium and everything had to be stowed away in high seas. Cabin beds were fixed down to the floor and all storage units had to be firmly fixed to the walls or other furniture to ensure it didn't get thrown around in bad weather.
The same need to utilize space exists now within kids rooms, and our ranges of cabin beds provide that additional storage space beneath beds that are raised enough to add extra storage, but not so high that a ladder is needed. Many of the current cabin beds suitable for kids rooms incorporate a pull-out bed that is neat and tidy when stowed away, but really convenient to get out easily for sleep overs, or when the room needs to be used as a guest room.
Other cabin beds are a simple way of adding extra storage such as cupboards and shelves. It's surprising how much storage you can fit underneath a cabin bed, and it also eliminates some of the mess that inevitably appears underneath a kid's bed when the space is open and available to be used as a dumping ground.
