Soft furnishings can really bring character to a room

Posted on March 3, 2010 by Sharon There have been 0 comments

Soft furnishings may be forgotten in the design process, but they would make a huge difference to the overall look of any bedroom. Especially when it comes to decorating or changing a child’s bedroom, parents often focus on their children’s beds, wallpaper and toys and can forget about rugs, curtains, cushions and towels.

Curtains are particularly important, as – when drawn – they form a large portion of the wall. It can also depend on whether your child’s curtains are lined, translucent, or blackout as to their weight, feel and look. There are curtains available in all manner of colours and styles, depending on the decor of your children’s room. You could have themed curtains to go with your kids’ bedding and tie the whole room together with their favourite matching toys and cushions.

Cushions are great for children’s bedrooms, as they can safely be thrown around a little, as well as put on the floor as makeshift seats, lined up to act as a barricade or line marker. Different shaped cushions add an extra element, as they can sometimes even be used as a toy – like the Harry Potter Golden Snitch Snuggle cushion.

Soft furnishings are a little like the decoration on a cake. The icing looks great as it is, but there isn’t the wow factor or personalised charm without a ribbon, happy birthday message, sugared fruit or candle.
