Bargain Hunting

Once you have done your research thoroughly and found a benchmark quote that you want to get under, the best thing to do is to call up your existing insurer and have a quick chat with them. No insurance company is going to want to lose customers, so if you’ve found a better deal elsewhere let them know and you may find that they fall over themselves trying to get under it.

Of course, if they do offer you a good deal, for convenience sake you can just accept. If you want to make sure that you get a really spectacularly good deal, though, you should ring up several more companies and see if you can play them off against each other. Companies like you to use the internet because they can set a price and they don’t have to negotiate over it, however, if they can afford to take 20% off insurance sold online, it is likely that they will be able to do it over the phone, and possibly even more.

Whilst it is not very British to haggle, insurance companies expect you to do it. The market is incredibly competitive and they will be going flat out to get your custom, and since it’s your money, make them work for it. If you get a good quote, call up another and see if they can beat it, and if they can go back to the first company.

It is important with all this to-ing and fro-ing that you keep good notes. Not all insurance companies will offer exactly the same deals. Some will calculate their premiums annually whilst some will do so monthly. Others will offer different add-ons to the insurance policy that may prove to be worth more than the difference between their policy and the cheapest companies. One example of this is Kwik Fit Insurance who offer tailor-made car insurance value policies out there for pure price and also offer a collection of additional options that make their insurance incredibly good value. Don’t be lulled by a company that offer you a really basic but cheap deal, you should always take cover over price.

The other thing that you must absolutely do is be completely honest. Whilst you might be able to get a cheaper policy if you omit certain truths, it’s really not a good idea as in the long run you may find that the insurance company declares your policy invalid when you come to make a claim. If you shop around and haggle, however, you won’t need to offer inaccurate information because you might just find an incredibly cheap deal.
